Animation Artist

As an animator for Ascend Games, you will bring warriors to life through classic animation principles and body mechanics. You will be creating first and third person animations for a highly technical first person melee combat game featuring a wide variety of different weapons and fighting styles. Being a part of a small and passionate team will grant you a unique degree of autonomy regarding the implementation and expression of your animations not found in larger projects. Our studio is underwhelmed by the current technologies being utilized in this genre of games and to that end, you will be collaborating with designers and programmers to develop an original suite of features and systems with the goal of raising the standard for animation fidelity. Your craft expertise will provide texture and elegance to a cutting-edge combat system alongside flavor and personality for a variety of characters.

Animation artists with Ascend’s content team are responsible for all aspects of animation development. This includes highly iterative animations for content exploration and some rigging work.

Responsibilities:
  • Create animation assets
  • Recognize areas of opportunity for animation
  • Meet project deadlines in a timely manner without compromising artistic integrity
  • Consistently communicate with the team by giving and receiving feedback, directing next steps, and providing clear goals and outcomes to your team
Required Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of professional experience working in animation and rigging
  • 2+ years of experience working in Maya or other 3D software
  • Strong experience working with Unreal Engine 4
  • Willing to work remotely

As a part of the application process, you will be expected to provide a portfolio or demo reel of your work and may be asked to complete an art test. A great reel should showcase a variety of walk cycles, a diverse selection of game-related animation, and a strong foundation in the principles of animation, including weight, anticipation, and impact.
